Annual KU Vets Day 5K - Commemorating the Centennial of the WWI Armistice

November 11, 2018

The annual KU Vets Day 5K, hosted by the KU Student Veterans of America and the Veterans Alumni Network, honors our past/present veterans and raises awareness of the roles veterans play in our university and community. The 5K begins and ends at Memorial Stadium, traveling through the KU campus past KU’s five war memorials.

We dedicated the 2018 run to commemorate the Centennial of the World War I armistice, as well as all those who have served in our Armed Forces.

All proceeds from the Vets Day 5K support KU Student Veterans of America (SVA) chapter, the KU Veterans Alumni Network, and the Lt. Gen. William K. Jones Military-Affiliated Student Center.

  • The KU SVA chapter provides military-affiliated students with an excellent forum to connect with peers and provide a common voice/advocacy for student veterans on campus.
  • The KU Alumni Association Veterans Network recognizes, honors, supports and celebrates those who have served, are serving and/or have an affiliation with the U.S. Armed Forces. Our work includes: hosting an annual events for the KU military-affiliated community and developing, funding, and supporting scholarship programs for veterans and their dependents.

  • The Lt. Gen. William K. Jones Military-Affiliated Student Center is KU’s centralized resource for military-affiliated students to assist students with their transition from the military to campus, persistence to graduation, and transition from the university to the civilian workforce. The center, located in 345 Summerfield Hall, opened in January 2017.
