This year's medal features a WWI "Doughboy" helmet with the 1941 Jayhawk on one side and a red poppy on the other side.
Participants will receive the shirt below. Extra shirts can be purchased through the race registration site until Nov. 1.
The race begins and ends at the east side of KU Memorial Stadium on Mississippi Street. *The road into/out of Memorial Stadium has changed; Google Maps has not updated yet so we tried our best to show the new route.
The 5K route will follow Memorial Drive, which passes each of the five war memorials on campus. This W-shaped drive runs from West Campus Road east to Mississippi Street north of Snow, Strong and Bailey halls. It was designed to complement the Memorial Carillon and Campanile, honoring the 277 KU alumni, students, faculty and staff who died in World War II and the more than 7,000 who served.
The route continues past the Chi Omega fountain, down Jayhawk Boulevard and Sunflower Road, turning west onto Sunnyside Avenue past Summerfield Hall (home to the KU Military-Affiliated Student Center). Sunnyside merges with Naismith Drive and participants head north up the hill to Crescent Road, going past the Chi Omega fountain again onto West Campus Road until turning east onto 11th Street. 11th Street wraps around Memorial Stadium with a strong downhill finish back into the stadium parking lot.
